The
Voice, Music and Imagery
In
societies throughout the world, chanting, hymn singing and vocal
improvisation have been integral keys to health and well being.
Studies now show that music and imagery provide essential elements
for releasing stress, relieving pain, expressing emotions, activating
memory and focusing concentration. Join best-selling author
of The Mozart Effect® Don Campbell for this in-depth, highly
interactive "ears on" workshop. Experience first-hand how the
transformational powers of music, imagery and the voice can
be applied to your personal and professional life. Discover
the art of listening vs. hearing, and the pioneering work of
Dr. Alfred Tomatis. Explore the many fascinating functions of
the ear and its influence on the multiple intelligences. Learn
about the powers of inner and outer speech and the importance
of posture and its effects on the experience of the listener.
Learn about the dominant ear and how to work in harmony with
this phenomenon. See how the power of music with imagery can
be used to quicken recovery from surgery, trauma and injuries.
Learn how to choose music for clinical settings. Vocalization
of emotional states can assist the awareness and integration
of imagery and inner guidance. Learn how the voice and the sounds
of vowels improve emotional well being, enhance mental stimulation,
release stress and reduce pain.

The
Shamanic Voice--Primordial Voices of Power
Chant,
Trance, and Magic -The way of the shaman is based on being in
touch with many dimensions of reality, chasing metaphors to bring
in healing and release. Sound healing modalities required the
same kind of attention, devotion, and knowledge. Experience and
understand the power of vocally induced trance from different
traditions of contemplative singing ( Shabda Yoga, Bhakty Yoga,
Nada Yoga, Tibetan healing music), and more expressive styles
of chanting from many parts world ( Kirtan Yoga, Shakty Yoga and
Raga, Amazon chants, Pygmies and African call and response, and
Norwegian and Scandinavian yodeling and indigenous songs ). Learn
a systematic approach to sound and music healing to understand
the progression and involvement from opening to healing sounds
-sacred syllables - toning - tuning - invocation -prayer - mantra
- song making - and clinical improvisation.

Explorations
in Sacred Sound
In
this one-day Intensive experience, Tom will guide participants
into a direct experience of sacred sound as a means to enter
the luminous aspects of consciousness. These luminous aspects
of mind are reported by nearly every religious or mystical
tradition. Tom will share some of the findings in neuroscience
that relate these experiences of light to biochemical processes
in the brain. Furthermore, he will discuss the basic neurophysiology
of sound as a means to alter awareness and demonstrate how
ancient shamanic and mystical traditions used these principles
to alter awareness and enter other worlds of being. One
of the benefits of entering these relaxing non-ordinary
states of mind is that there is a decrease of stress factors,
including decreased blood pressure, heart rate, respiration,
and muscle tension. In addition, there is often a decrease
in stress hormones such as adrenaline. As a result, participants
can expect to leave the workshop with an increased sense
of health and well-being. In addition, participants will
leave with an appreciation and understanding of how to use
sound and music to access the non-dominant hemisphere and
the creative aspects of mind that it opens.

Behavioral
Psychoacoustics & Neuroacoustic Therapy
This
intensive will be presented in four segments:
Segment 1: The physics of acoustics and the underpinnings
of sympathetic resonance - as it effects the body. The physics
and neurophysics of entrainment - as it relates to physical
and brainwave entrainment. Segment 2: Neuroanatomy and neurophysiology
of hearing and vibration sense processing in the brain and
body - to build an understanding of how sound and vibration
can cause change in physiology and behavior. Segment 3): An
in depth study of "Primordial Sounds" and their effect on
the body and the mind. The use of human body recordings, vocal
recordings, nature sounds and NASA Space Sound recordings
in therapy. Segment 4): Modern, high-tech equipment for measuring
physical responses to sound therapy in the central nervous
system, acupuncture meridians, brainwaves and post-ganglionic
energy centers.
